THE Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) is proud to promote and continue its cooperation with partners and industries that support students through scholarship schemes.
Pro vice chancellor (academic) Prof MA Satter made the remarks following a visit to the top engineering students by staff from the Ok Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML) last Tuesday. The top four engineering students who had applied for the OTML’s undergraduate student scholarship scheme were privileged to have been awarded the scholarship this year. Two final year male students, Anthony Igo, from the mining engineering department, and William Togu, from the electrical engineering department, have maintained their USS scheme from last year. New recipients of the scholarship scheme for this year were both third year mining engineering students, Richard Mabiria and the only female candidate, Christine Sahuburua. “PNG is contributing to the world economy and Unitech’s mining engineering department is contributing to that level of development through the supply of skilled labor,” Satter said. He congratulated the rest of the recipients for their academic achievement and encouraged them to be responsible and do well in their studies. The representatives from OTML, Kenny Beremao and Fred Orawi assured the university management that it would continue to maintain its corporate relations with Unitech. They appeal to recipients of the scheme to develop positive attitudes and commit themselves to their studies in order to maintain their scholarship. Beremao commended Unitech’s mining department for its vital role in producing engineers in the field of mining and mineral processing. On behalf of the scholarship recipients, Mabiria thanked OTML for believing in them and awarding them the sponsorship. He said they were privileged to have been selected and assured the OTML representatives that they would do their best to maintain their scholarship 2/27/2014 07:48:39 pm
