THE Miss Pacific Islands PNG Pageant (MPIP) is offering scholarship to women who are currently studying in tertiary institutions under its School fee scholarship programme.
MPIP Committee chairperson Katherine Johnston said they have sponsored young women studying to be teachers, nurses, doctors and accountants, and others from Divine Word University, University of Technology and other institutions around the country. “Last year we sponsored 18 young women attending St Therese’s Catholic Teacher’s College outside Port Moresby.” Johnston said after graduation, these young women would go back to their rural communities to teach. “We are hoping that the partnership with this institution will continue this year,” she said. Johnston said MPIP is committed to ensuring that young women were given the opportunity to complete their studies, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. She said this scholarship was designed to assist young women facing financial hardship to complete their education. A beneficiary of the MPIP scholarship, Imorea Hutumo in a letter to the committee said the support gave her the opportunity to complete Diploma in Business Studies-Accounting with good grades at the end of the 2013 academic year. Hutumo said she was then accepted at the University of Papua New Guinea for the undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in accounting for two years (3rd and 4th year). “Education is a vital tool to build a strong nation,” she said. She said the programme as provided an avenue for young women to advance in education.

My daughter completed year three rural health in 2014 from DWU and withdrew because financial support was not forthcoming.
