THE Melanesian Nazarene Teachers’ College will open two new dormitories and staff houses in July.
Principal Peter Kelaki said the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology gave K1.5 million for the projects last year. He said the college had its own challenges since its establishment in 2007 but with the new administration the college was progressing well with practical management and infrastructure development. Deputy principal Michael Miamel said the Melanesian Nazarene Teachers’ College was established by the Church of Nazarene of Papua New Guinea to train students using the holistic approach of the church to teach in remote schools of the country. “The teachers’ college is a fully registered primary teacher training college for public schools in the country and has improved overtime and are offering three years study in diploma in primary teaching,” Miamel said. Since its establishment, the college had graduated hundreds of primary school teachers. It is private-owned and operated by the Nazarene Church but uses the curriculum requirement of the office of higher education.
