The nationwide cry for parents to have a Standard Base Curriculum (SBC) has been achieved, but it needs corporation to fully implement the curriculum. Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra challenge officers of various levels in the education sector while officially closing a week long workshop by the Teacher education and curriculum development division on the 2017 National Standard Based curriculum of primary training of trainer’s workshop. “We are in a situation where our country and leaders demand that we must have SBC and we need to work together to bring it up and that is the reality,” he said. He said the elementary have completed the training but needs to assess the actual implementation of the curriculum that every stakeholder wants, which is the quality. “We need to go further to really asses the actual implementation of the elementary curriculum to do it more empirically. “Do proper study and analysis whether every teacher is using English as the language of instructions or English kit actually being used or stored to ensure that e curriculum is implemented. “The next phase is the primary and the secondary as well,” Dr Kombra said. He also said the government has given the education deadline in 2020 to deliver the curriculum in all schools across the country and urged teachers to improvise despite situations especially financial situation to achieve the SBC. “We have asked for about K145m to roll out the program but we were given K20m, but this year our budget cut down to K18m. “We cannot do everything but we are able to ensure some prudent decisions to see some progress, that’s how far we have come so far,” Dr Kombra said.He said he has already made contact for printing for lower primary syllabus and teachers guide for distribution.He is hopeful that by early he will have it delivered.
