ELEMENTARY and primary schools in the National Capital District will benefit from the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP).
This was revealed by Japanese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Morio Matsumoto during his courtesy visit to NCD Governor Powes Parkop. The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) is a financial assistance programme for development projects designed to meet the diverse needs of developing countries. Matsumoto said the Japanese Government planned to use some of the GGP programme grants to support schools projects in Port Moresby. Since arriving in Port Moresby in August 2014, Matsumoto did not have the chance to officially meet with Governor Parkop. He thanked the governor for arranging the meeting even though they have met several times in different occasions and functions. He thanked the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) for issuing a building permit to allow the construction of the new Japanese Embassy next to the Australian High Commission. He said the Japanese Government planned to increase its investment in Port Moresby in the near future. Parkop welcomed the decision by the Japanese Government to support elementary and primary schools in NCD. He said that promoted good dialogue and collaboration between NCDC and the Japanese Government. Parkop is happy that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made a commitment to help prepare Port Moresby for the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting.
