JAPANESE Government is backing the PNG Government to see all school-aged children go to school as education plays a vital role in a country’s development.
Speaking during the signing of grant contract between Waput SDA Primary and Japan Embassy, councillor Hiroshi Nawatan said PNG Government is trying as much as it could to see school-aged children going to school, however, many are missing out due to space limitation. “One of Japan’s priority areas through our Official Development Assistance Policy to Papua New Guinea is to support the improvement of basic education, quality of learning and teaching,” he said. “I am aware that since 2012 Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his government have introduced the tuition fee free policy to allow more school-aged children to go to school.” He said the signing of the grant contract for new classrooms for Waput will have a positive impact on school-aged children in Madang by improving classroom facilities. Waput Primary School will have a two by one storey building to be erected and will receive 160 desks under the Japanese grant assistant for grassroots human security project (GGP). GGP project coordinator Masatake Harada said Sasoya Primary in East Sepik also received GGP project and that was the way Japan was helping the PNG Government.
