“It’s time for Gulf to pick up and move forward, and one of the best ways to do this is to have intellectual people produced from the province,” said Gulf Governor Havila Kavo.
The governor stated during a quiet ground breaking ceremony at Ilakaraita primary school, Kerema after the announcement of more than K900,000 allocated for a new building for the school. The building was part of the governor’s aim to improve education and produce more human resources from the province. Governor Kavo stated that the funds were made available through the Provincial Support Improvement Program supported by the National government. He said education in the Gulf and especially in the province’s main town was lacking and it was in the best interest of the people that a quantity of funds from the program was injected into education. “In order for a province to move forward, we need educated intellectual persons, and where better to start than in the schools with improved learning facilities,” he said. He added that the new generation were the core of any country, province and town thus leading to the saying, ‘education is the key to success’. Kerema provincial administrator Marc Ovisuru Avai said the education was part of the provincial government idea in line with the National government’s vision in improving the standard of education. Mr Avai said education is one of the key pillars in building a province and nation. He commended the governor for the great initiative. The funding has been converted into a contract which was awarded to A&A builders for the construction of a 4 x 1 classroom building. The company managing director Thoua Enara said the construction of the building will be completed in three months. PNG Education News / Post Courier Comments are closed.
