A FORMER education adviser for Northern has supported Governor Gary Juffa’s call to conduct investigations on all education funds for the province.
Ian Kopukora claimed that Juffa was referring to him as the former education advisor in an article published in The National on Dec 20. Juffa was quoted as saying: “Teachers in the province are likely to miss out on their leave fares because funds were used elsewhere.” Juffa said that a former education advisor had misapplied K300,000 for hire cars this year alone and that his office would conduct investigations on such claims through a provincial public accounts committee next year. Kopukora claimed that those statements were misleading as the money was not for leave fares but from a separate budget which was for the purchase of vehicles and administration work for the division. He clarified that K1.5 million was budgeted and approved for the division and out of that money K700,000 was committed for the 2013 leave fares for teachers. “Juffa’s inclusion of the K300,000 being taken from the teachers leave fares was wrong as it was from a separate budget. This money was used to hire a car which was used for that specific purpose,” he said. Comments are closed.
