THE curriculum for Flexible Open and Distance Education (Fode) has been aligned with the normal curriculum in the national school system.
This means that the aligned 19 curricula for Fode from Grade Seven to Grade 12 will use the same assessment, examination, certificate, and selection process currently used. A request was extended to the provincial education advisers to support the growth of Fode in their provinces for the benefit of those students who were pushed out of the school system to continue their education from grades seven to 12. The students who are currently studying at Fode centres are supported by the tuition fee-free policy. Fode has 22 centres in the country and they are funded under the Department of Education budget appropriation annually. Senior education officers during their conference last week have been urged to work cooperatively and share the required resources needed in Fode centres. The alignment of the Fode curriculum with the conventional standard-based curriculum has been considered as a huge achievement for the education department. The formal launching of the aligned curriculum will be held at a later date.
