NINE technical experts from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be assisting the Education Department’s curriculum development division in the writing of the mathematics and science curriculum for primary schools.
Acting deputy secretary for schools and education standards Titus Romano Hatagen said a memorandum of understanding was signed with JICA to start the three-year project. He said the project was to re-align the primary school mathematics and science curriculum to be compatible with other countries. “Japan is renowned for its high standards in mathematics and science and we are grateful to JICA for this partnership,” Hatagen said. He said eight teachers had been identified as curriculum writers to work with the nine Japanese. JICA had also assisted in the production of Grade 7 and 8 EQUITV mathematics and science textbooks. “With this new project, we hope to improve the standard of mathematics and science after the review and re-aligning is done,” he said.
