Term Three for all schools and institutions under the National Education System ends on Friday, September 23 and the one week holiday begins on Monday, September 26 and ends on Friday, September 30. “These are the official dates contained in the 2016 Education Calendar therefore, head teachers, principals and managers are advised to observe these dates unless they have organised in-service trainings or other very important activities organised for their teachers,” Acting Secretary Dr Uke Kombra said. Dr Kombra added that the education of the children is very important and therefore, teachers and school administrations must ensure that if schools are to close early for the holidays, it must be for a very good reason. “I would like to advise students to behave themselves and obey their parents and guardians during the holidays. I encourage the Grades 10 and 12 to use the holiday week to do revisions in order to prepare for the final examinations in Term 4,” said Dr Kombra. The Acting Secretary said Term 4 begins on Monday, October 3 and ends on Friday, December 9. He added that Term Four (4) will have 10 weeks and some of the important dates and events in Term 4 include: • Lower Secondary School Certificate Examination (Grade 10) – October 10-14 • Upper Secondary School Certificate Examination (Grade12) – October 17-21 • Certificate of Basic Education Examination (Grade 8) – October 24-27 • National HIV/AIDS Week – November 28-Dec 2 • Grade 11 National Selections – November 28-Dec 2 The Acting Secretary wished the students and teachers a safe holiday week.
