THE National Department of Education will work with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve the quality of science and mathematics education in Papua New Guinea.
Japan, well known for its emphasis on science and mathematics in education, will support the Government’s education sector with science and maths text books to implement the Standards-based Curriculum Education (SBC) project. The project will start in 2016 and run through to 2019. According to Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra: “If everything works well, all elementary to Grade 12 education in the country will use the new text books under the SBC.” Deputy Secretary for schools and education standards directorate Dr Eliakim Apelis said working with JICA would improve the country’s education to internationally accepted standards.
