THE appointment of teachers in Northern will be withdrawn because it was done wrongly, an education official says.
Division of Education official Kongleo Mumari said the appointments did not comply with the Teaching Service Act 1988 and Education Act 1983. He said the provincial education board had wrongly included principals and headmasters in the Teacher Appointment Committee. He was referring to an article in The National this week stating that the board had the authority to make appointments and the committee comprised a chairman (an education technical officer or an LLG member), deputy chairman, PNG Teachers Association representative, church representative, community representative, LLG representative, TVET coordinator, primary, community and elementary school superintendent, high and secondary schools superintendent and government representatives. “Provincial Education Board’s (PEB) inclusion of principals and headmasters in the appointment committee is wrong because they are not included in the make-up of that committee,” he said.
