MORE than 5000 teachers in East Sepik and Eastern Highlands will retain their positions, according to Teaching Service Commission chairman Baran Sori
“Provincial education divisions did not comply with policies and procedures of the 2018 appointments when positions where gazetted last year,” Sori told The National. TSC did not reject them. Sori said the general services of the Education Department with the National Education Board dealt with the appointments of teachers. “East Sepik and Eastern Highlands have not complied with the policies and processes. For that reason the appointments for those provinces missed out and as a result the teachers will resume in positions they were teaching in last year. “Confirmation of tenure appointments cannot be made and for that reason, they missed out.” Sori cautioned that teachers must follow the right processes in future. East Sepik Governor Allan Bird called last month for an investigation and disciplinary action against the Education division staff following petitions by the teachers. “I think that this is unacceptable,” Bird said. “I think that this is a poor job for the people in the East Sepik administration who are in-charge of this and I expect all of them to be disciplined. “I told (the administrator) that this is grounds for termination of employment but I don’t have the power to that.” EHP administration could not be reached for comment.
