FORTY young men and women have joined ExxonMobil PNG Ltd’s third intake of operations and maintenance trainees at a ceremony in Port Moresby.
The trainees will begin their coursework with a nine-month classroom schedule, which will see the trainees completing foundation skills and basic skills training in oil and gas and next advancing their skills into facility specific training at the company’s operating sites. The comprehensive set of skills will set them on the path to become qualified operations and maintenance technicians. Following graduation, the trainees will be employed throughout the PNG LNG project sites, including Hides Gas Conditioning Plant and LNG Plant, along with associated pipelines and wells. EMPNG operations manager Bruce Page said being an operations and maintenance trainee for ExxonMobil is an opportunity that will last a lifetime. “Through this programme, the trainees will build their competency and develop important technical skills that will lay the foundations to advance both the company and their careers,” Page said. “We congratulate the trainees for reaching this significant milestone and we welcome you into the ExxonMobil family,” he said. During the opening ceremony, the trainees and their parents were presented with information about EMPNG and the course, their objectives for workforce development, national content and strategic community investment. One of the 12 women selected for the trainees programme, Barbara Kipak said it had been her dream to work for ExxonMobil. “I feel proud to have been selected for this programme, I know there will be a lot of work and learning, but I’m looking forward to it and I’m ready to start,” Kipak said. EMPNG recruited the first intake of operations and maintenance trainees in 2010 with 59 trainees completing the programme and again in 2012 with a further 76 trainees finishing the programme.
