The process of reconciling and restoring peace to the campus of the University of Technology brought together more than 600 Enga and Southern Highlands students for a significant reconciliation ceremony at the Okari Campus in Lae. “We the Engans and the Southern Highlands are brothers, in the process of fighting for what is right, we came to face this crisis, ” said the President of the SHP students association Kensy John. Enga students President Collin Kuti apologized for to the administration for the fighting and causing disruptions in the academic year. He stated that as a student leader he did not think that the day of reconciliation would have come sooner but acknowledged that it was by God’s grace and divine intervention. Both presidents echoed that as of the day of reconciliation, both vowed on behalf of their colleagues never to do such again and that fear will be no more as they return to school as brothers. The family of the late Graham Romanong, who were also present were thanked for being a part of the reconciliation ceremony, allowing it to eventuate despite what had happened. Chancellor of Unitech Sir Nagora Bogan told the students that the day was all about saying sorry, asking for forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace. “We must talk about love, peace, harmony, tolerance, trust and respect because without these amongst you and me, there wouldn’t be a University of Technology, and no sense of security.” The presidents of both parties, representing the students were then prayed over by Ps. Michael Logo to consecrate the act of reconciliation. Also there at the ceremony were representatives from the respective parties’ and the provincial administration. PNGFM/PNGEDUNEWS
