MORE than 200 students attending Karkar Vocational School on Karkar Island, in Madang, will have to miss out again on a graduation ceremony because of administration problems.
Student representative council president Graham Ngsoi said it was the fifth year they had not held a graduation ceremony because of school management issues. This year, students were told to go home five weeks before the end of the school term because of a fight between villagers at Bulu plantation, Bemgaluk and highlands. No comments could be obtained from the school management or education officials. Ngsoi said the students were fed up with problems at the school, including facilities which were not worth the fees they were paying. “Students on technical, vocational, education and training courses paid K500 and those studying nursing paid K1,300,” he said. The students want training material and curriculum provided, including identity cards, uniforms and health care practical material. “The school account needs to be activated and funds provided by the government must be properly acquitted,” Ngasoi said. He said the institution provided an opportunity to further their education after dropping out of school. Related News Comments are closed.
