TEACHERS in Western Highlands have welcomed the decision to have their leave fares paid directly into their bank accounts.
The leaves fares used to be paid to an airline company, which deducts 10% as its fees. Kindeng Primary School headmaster Timbi Kumbamang said the new arrangement was a big relief to the teachers. The arrangement was made by Western Highlands Teachers Association president Alfred Moka and provincial education advisor Stanley Maip. Kumbamang said they needed the leave fares to enjoy with their families during Christmas. He said teachers used to struggle to access their leave fares with airline companies. “The leave fare fund belongs to the teachers and it is not right that they have to struggle to access it,” Kumbamang said. “This must be practised throughout the Highlands as Christmas is a time everyone wants to enjoy with their families.” He said every education official must support this arrangement. “For us teachers, we feel it is a relief and we a very thankful to the PNGTA Western Highlands branch and Maip for the arrangement,” Kumbamang said.
